For 100 years the Queen Elizabeth Centre (QEC) has provided specialised care, support and guidance to help parents manage the many challenges that arise during early parenthood, from before birth until 48 months. QEC advocates child focused and family-centred practices underpinned by a philosophy that family is the principal source of care for children, offering services and programs that are culturally relevant and accessible to all clients. Public services are delivered at QEC's Noble Park site and/or through regional community bases. We provide services to Victorian families and specialise in working with vulnerable families in our community.
We work in partnership with families to understand their challenges and develop strategies to overcome them. These are incorporated into an action plan that our staff work through with parents. These programs might include a one, five or ten day residential program at QEC Noble Park, intensive in home support or involvement in a ten week, or ongoing group program. Parents experience a real life in confidence when they experience these strategies in action. The action plan helps the family to continue to work on these strategies at home and embed the changes. The team at QEC also work with the families to connect them to services and support in their own communities.
Working as a Senior Early Parenting Practitioner, this position will work predominantly in the Stronger Families program but may also support other programs. Stronger Families is an intensive family coaching and support program to:
Develop and support families so more children and young people can grow up at home;
Re-design care services to deliver greater placement choice and enable children and young people to be better matched to placements; and
Secure improvements in the outcomes and life chances for children and young people in care.
The position will be based from our Morwell office, working closely with other partner agencies providing family support services to vulnerable families to improve the safety, wellbeing and development of children.
To be considered for this role you will possess:
Associate Diploma in Child Care Studies, Enrolled Nurse Level 1 (Mothercraft Nurse) or equivalent qualification in a human services discipline
Experience in working with families in the health/welfare sector
Experience working in community settings such as home based family services and/or long day child care
Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills
Sound understanding of the service system for vulnerable young parents and their children and experience in working in partnership with key agencies.
Well-developed understanding of child development and the factors that can impede a child's development.
Experience in working with families in the health/welfare sector and in the early parenting period.
