Formed in 1917, QEC is a public hospital and community service organisation that provides a range of residential and in-home services designed to develop parenting competence. QEC is Victoria’s largest provider of early parenting services and delivers a variety of programs to more than 3,800 families annually across Victoria.
At the QEC we recognise that the perinatal period is a time of great change. An increasing number of mothers admitted to our programs have mental health concerns which directly impact on their health, their child’s health, parenting and the important bond between mother and child. Our purpose is to help these vulnerable families and children by providing specialised services, guidance and education to give children the best start in life.
As an Early Parenting Practitioner you will provide tailored support, care and education to families experiencing difficulties adjusting to parenthood, you will visit families in their homes to identify their parenting strengths and challenges. During the course of the program, you will assist with the level of parenting competencies and provide teaching, modelling, coaching, encouragement and support to enhance parenting skills in areas requiring development.
To be considered for this role you will possess:
A qualification at Diploma level or higher in either Community Services, Early Childhood, Social Work, Enrolled Nurse or similar
Experience working with families in the health/welfare sector ideally within the early parenting period
Highly developed skills and experience in risk assessments and management
Sound understanding of child development and the factors that can impede a child’s development
The successful candidate will have access to QEC's Clinical Starter Program which has been designed to support all new clinicians in developing skills and building knowledge to support them in the role of Early Parenting Practitioner. This program offers new starters ongoing support which includes one on one support from our learning team, a QEC program handbook, extensive induction and orientation program as well as scheduled clinical training over a 12 month period.
